A question about Abiogenic petroleum origin?

I have been looking into Abiogenic Petroleum origin and find it interesting. Would if the only reason that biological petroleum origin allows people to find oil is because biological materiel decomposing in the ground is acting like a sponge sucking the oil up? I've found a lot of research that supports the theory of Abiogenic petroleum origin. Also, I noticed that support for Abiogenic Petroleum origin is growing. Do you think it is wishful thinking on part of the masses or is it a cat out of the bag kind of thing?
