Every single thing ever written is automatically copyrighted until 70 years after the author's death. That includes every paper you ever wrote in school, and even your Yahoo Answers post here (by posting, you agreed to give Yahoo the right to post it in spite of your copyright- that's what part of the long legal agreement you're supposed to read before posting says).
